STOP Mining Tibet!

Today, Tibetans and their supporters across the UK and Canada are telling mining companies: Hands off Tibet! You can help stop the exploitation of Tibet's natural resources by lodging a complaint with one or all of the companies doing business in Tibet. Read below for ways you can take action now.

1. Call and register your opposition with a mining company representative: See below for contact information for the companies. Phone calls are the most effective way to make sure corporate decision makers hear our message loud and clear. Please politely ask the person who answers the phone that you'd like to speak to a company representative. If they don't transfer your call, ask them to pass a message onto the CEO that you are opposed to the company's mining operations in Tibet. See below for helpful talking points.
2. Personalize a letter and fax it to the company: To download a sample letter, click here. If you are unable to phone or send a fax, you can also text message the company from your mobile phone.
3. Be Creative! Below is a list of more actions you can take to tell these companies to Quit Playing Dirty: Stop Mining Tibet.
   • Make a large Quit Playing Dirty: Stop Mining Tibet banner or large greeting card with "dirty" handprints on it. Ask people to sign the card.
   • Deliver a gift basket to the company. Call a florist near you and ask them if you can purchase a pot of dirt. Include a greeting card from your group that says, We're Digging Up the Dirt on You: Stop Mining Tibet.
   • Have people send personal messages to the company. The sample message could include: "We're Digging Up the Dirt on You: Stop Mining Tibet Now" and "Tibet's resources for Tibetans".

Please polite when you call and ask to speak to a company representative:

• Under Chinese occupation, Tibetans have no voice to determine the use of their own natural resources and have not consented to mining projects on their land.
• The Chinese government is pursuing large-scale resource extraction in Tibet as a means to consolidate control over the region by attracting thousands of ethnically Chinese migrant workers into Tibet, while transferring the profits from resource extraction out of Tibet.
• Tibetans who speak out against Chinese government sponsored projects - like mine operations - risk arrest, imprisonment and even torture.
• Tibetans want development and an end to the decades of poverty they have endured under Chinese rule, but oppose projects that do not benefit local Tibetans, are environmentally destructive, and allow China to further consolidate control over their land.
• Request that the company uphold its claim to be a responsible mining firm and immediately withdraw all operations from Tibet.
